March Gladness

So February kind of sucked for me. Sure, it could have been worse, but it was a blur of cleaning and decluttering, of long days stuck inside due to crap weather, of hubby traveling, of more cleaning, of many stressful and anxious thoughts about trying to sell our house, of quite a few MEP-hosted pity parties, and several bottomed-out-crying-fit-woe-is-me breakdowns. On the positive side, I did see a little bit of sun for a few days in Florida . . . before we all got a nasty stomach bug. And I did see all of my siblings and my parents over the weekend as we surprised my mom for her 60th birthday.

And guess what, now it's March! It's March! It's March! It's March! March is my very favorite month, first and foremost because my birthday is in March. Second because I think the air outside smells different and better in March. Third because March is just such a hopeful month. I like the starting fresh/new year/good intentions vibe of January, but then in February I just tend to feel worn down and in a rut. Once March comes, there is at least the hope of spring. Sure, spring probably won't arrive in Chicago until late May, but in March you don't feel crazy for hoping! Plus, I like St. Patrick's Day and March Madness. I like the fundraiser at Bub's school. I like that there will surely be a few days when I can walk outside in just a fleece (not that I have any fleeces that I could zip over the ginormous belly right about now).

Sure, much of the uncertainty that plagued me in February remains. I don't know when our house will sell. I don't know how I will manage three kids. I am doing a decent job keeping the house clean for now, but don't know if I can keep it up. But, since it's March, I feel more confident that I can handle whatever comes my way. I feel relatively calm and hopeful, and it feels great.

So, in honor of my favorite month, I'm going to try out a new endeavor: March Gladness! March Gladness involves trying to be as positive, hopeful, and calm as possible and trying to post every day here at NTB because blogging makes me happy.

Stay tuned please and tell me, what's your favorite month? Does March have any special meaning to you?

March is my favorite, too: Like you, I'm a March baby, and the store shelves are always stocked with Cadbury eggs. Tell me, what month can compete with that??

Well....March is the MEPsters birthday, so it is always special for that reason alone.....lots of cool slumber parties at her house back in the day! But, I must say, that June is my favorite month. It is my birth month and is the start of the heat and sunshine. We get to take trips to the pool and to Kings Island and to the lake. My flower boxes are in full bloom in June and I love to tend to them (I get a little sick of it by September). I get to see my little boys' legs in June. I'm getting excited already! Rita

My oldest will be 5 on the last day of the month (and my youngest will be 2 on the next day, April 1st). I am currently suffering from double birthday anxiety. I fear it will occur about this time for the next 10-15 years--or until my girls are too cool for parents.
In case you were wondering--I think we are going with a hedonistic theme combining (late) Mardi Gras (in honor of The Princess and the Frog movie) and an Easter egg hunt, as their party is the day before Easter. There may be a clown, too. It will be freaky!

I'm a February birthday and I can't even pretend that it's a good month. I used to consider my birthday the lone bright spot, but the snow messes with that too: my date night plans were foiled by it this year for example.

March is my favorite month to give birth. I've had a May (not bad, but a little bit of a tease when it is really nice out and you aren't quite up to being out or can't take the newborn out in the heat. Also not great when it is the year of the cicada) and a December (not recommended for many reasons including hectic time, cold weather, abundant germs), and then my lovely March (you can be holed up inside while the month of March changes from lion to lamb and then go out to enjoy the delightful weather.)

I also associate March with spring break which brings back happy memories:)

You are SO right; March is such a hopeful month. Even though there is still snow on the ground, the temp is still in the 30's and I have a bad chest cold, something about knowing that it's March brings me joy. In a month, flowers will be blooming. In a month, the grass will be green and we can put away our winter snowsuits.

I like your name, March Gladness!

I'm a March baby as well, and echo your reasons for loving it. I love March even when my birthday falls on Good Friday, which has "bummer" written all over it. Also, even if I weren't a March enthusiast for birthday reasons, I would find it impossible not to love the month that introduces local spring veggies: asparagus! peas! tender new arugala!

Sigh. I love me some March.

Mep, you are too cool. First of all, I feel the exact same way about March; on March 1st, I feel completely different than on Feb. 28. Loving the March Gladness theme. Secondly, I'm from Chicago and happy to have a new blogging friend in the Windy City (I'm an East Coaster now) Thirdly (and she just goes on and on...), thanks for visiting my blog! Fourthly (almost done), when are you due and I suppose you're not coming to the BlogHer convention since you're about to pop a baby, right?

Okay. I'm done.

If I had to pick a favorite month, I guess it would be May. The weather is warm enough that you can be outside, but rarely is it uncomfortably hot. Plus, it was always the end of school and the beginning of summer. Which, although I am many years removed from summer vacations, the delight at that time of year remains.

Here's looking forward to a great March!

I guess my favorite month would have to be June. The weather is nice, I stop looking so deathly white, and as a teacher, it marks the beginning of summer vacation. If only it could be here sooner.

i can't say march is a favorite (outside of celebrating the day of your birth, of course)--it's just still too damn cold for me. and the end of a season is never as enjoyable as the beginning of one. in fact, i'd have to claim a few months as my favorites: i'm going with april, june, september, and december--as each of those months starts a new season. the change of season is my absolute favorite thing--putting on jeans and a sweater for the first time in the fall, the thought of high school football games on a friday night, the crunch of leaves, etc. and then the first snow of winter, the first day of flip flops, getting the grill fired up again, the first trip to the pool... yep, i'm ready for something to change around here...

I'm so glad to hear that your February funk is over. Mine, too, I hope. I do enjoy March, though I find it's days of 57 degrees are more of a tease than anything else. I have to go with June -- the pool opens, I get to dig around in the dirt, my husband might actually sit outside to eat sometimes, and it still reminds me of how awesome it was to be DONE with a school year.

One of my goals is too take every February off for the rest of my life. Even if I lived at the beach, I still think February would stink. It was the last month I learned to spell, and has caused me nothing but trouble since. Exclusive of vacations taken, and getting engaged (good save on the memory there) I have no memories of anything really good happening in February.
