A Winter's Tale

Little Bit:
congested
snotty (nose not disposition)
two front teeth about to bust through at any moment
balking at taking infant motrin because he confuses he medicine dropper with the dreaded snot-sucker thing (nasal aspirator?)
enjoys it when we turn bathroom into steam room

Bub:
worst ear infection ever (for him, not all of humanity) now on the mend
improving ears, yet strangely unable to listen to anything I say the past three days
new and frightening strain of nap resistance detected
caught sucking on Little Bit's nasal aspirator
insisting on playing Christmas CD on his "boom box" at very high volume while I feed Little Bit
new hobby of ripping up tissues and making it snow

I will survive. Someday spring will arrive. Tell me about winter in your little corner of the world.

Sophie has a thing for sucking on nasal aspirators. It's pretty yucky. And might explain the cold both she and I have right now. Needless to say, there is a lot of snot flying around this house right now. The good news is my parents are coming for a four day visit, arriving tonight, so we'll both be sick for that. Yay.

everyone here has snotty noses. i may overdose on airborne trying to avoid it. i make eli change his clothes everytime he wipes his snot on his sleeve so if i don't do laundry soon he will have no more shirts to wear. and poor josie won't let me put her hair in pigtails today so i think her hair is full of snot as well. lovely lovely winter here too.

Listening to Elizabeth Mitchell baby music while simultaneously watching snow fall and rocking almost-snoozing baby boy and delighting in life. Suffering from short term memory loss due to sleep deprivation, so as to have no recollection of fact that said baby boy likes to party all night.

Curled with a blanket watching some TV....desperately wishing winter would end soon. Additionally wishing the enormous pile of snow and the iciciles that have begun to look like stalagmites would melt. Here's hoping...

This winter has brought me several colds and two bouts with the stomach flu. The last started Sunday night, and though I was finally able - by Tuesday - to pick up Olivia without feeling like I would faint, I still felt dead tired. Olivia has had a drippy nose for quite some time now. I particularly enjoy it when she sneezes quite forcefully and expels copious amounts of fluid. Thank God for the nasal aspirator...

Also fighting Annika's snotty nose due to the cedar and everything else in Austin along with a hacking cough she only has/gets at night. The cough wakes her, and then of course me, almost every hour. We also went through the making it snow only our version was with puzzle pieces.

Housebound with newborn, trying to avoid all the germs outside these four walls. Fancy and Swiper with lingering snotty noses and coughs. Cheeks are red from snot sitting on them when they do the classic nose wipe with the sleeve. Really hoping cold/cough doesn't pass to baby sister, as the cough as passed on to me. A few sniffles in the little one, and an occasional booger to fish out.

Let me just say that there's a lot of whining going on around here. Had a heated argument about handwashing with my 3 year old yesterday that ended with Mom in tears and child in room. Went to McDonald's playland for good times yesterday and one of my kids refused to get out of the car....just didn't want to go there. There's much snot on the sleaves of outfits, on the couch pillows, on the couch, on the beds....EVERYWHERE. And, of course, the classic chapped lips....actually, now they are bloody. I tried to convince myself that winter will be over soon, but then realized that it's only just begun. Still, I'm online looking at new bathing suits for the kids. It will be warm again and we're going to be ready!!! Rita

so far, i am the snottiest of all, but the cold seems to make little noses run, whether they are sick or not.

cosmo likes to sing "jingle bells" over and over, and is trying to play it on his little piano. he hasn't figured out what to do after that first string of E notes, so he just keeps hitting the E to the beat of the song.

the good news for us about the end of napping for cosmo, is that putting him to bed at night is now the easiest thing in the world. maybe that will be true for the bub too?

Seriously... Winter has meant many more minutes in our early morning routine to get out the door. Extra layers...Coats, Mittens or gloves depending on the day and hats (many to choose from)! V in the car seat all snuggled in. Molly has a lingering snotty nose made bloody by the constant picking. Purell by the Gallon full used around our house.(purchased at Sam's of course!) Gotta love winter... Plus the kid's skin is suffering the effects as well! I am ready for Spring. BDavin
