It seems both reading habits and the publishing industry are being challenged (invigorated or threatened, depending upon whom you ask) by the explosion of ereading. The Kindle and, more powerfully, the Kindle app for the ipod touch have definitely changed my reading habits (for the better, I think). I thought it might be interesting to track not only what I read, but also how I read.
I'd argue there are few people who love books as physical objects as much as I do, but I find that I love the stories themselves even more. I am very thankful that audiobooks, ebooks, and Apple products make it easy for me to read within the confines of a life that offers few opportunities for curling up on the couch and peacefully reading "real books."

We're getting Kindles for Romania. I'm really hoping they'll help me find more time to read, instead of letting the library books pile up and then returning most of them unread. Ironically, the only book on our new Kindle right now is all about living in Romania!

Thanks for posting this, MEP. I just finally have had time to start reading again, and the hubby gave me a Kindle for Christmas. You'll be interested to know that the first book I downloaded (aside from Happy Sleep Habits for Twins or some such thing) was...um. What was it called? About all the different stories that interlapped around the man who tightrope-walked between the Twin Towers? Anyway, you reviewed it on NTB, and that's where I got the idea.
I am pretty sure that the one huge difference between reading "real books" and books in electronic form, for me, will be that I will have no idea the titles and authors of what I read. No?

I like your idea of tracking what format you're reading in. I'll have to do that myself. Since my library's selection of lendable ebooks is not as extensive as their paper collection, I still read a good number of the traditional variety, but I love the Nook. And now that Neil has a Nook Color, which is essentially a little iPad, he's always got his nose in that thing.
Anywho, can't wait to see what the fab MEP is reading this year!
So far it's been an audiobook year for me. I really really liked Room, though I was at first afraid I'd be put off by the child narrator. Keep finding myself getting choked up thinking about it, even a couple of weeks later.
Currently listening to I'd Know you Anywhere by Laura LIppman. Pretty good.
Finally getting into Cutting for Stone on my Kindle, and finally enjoying it. Took me longer than I thought.
MEP, I have become even a faster reader with the Kindle. I LOVE it. I went through a WWII phase recently and read The Invisible Bridge, The Glass Room, and The Piano Teacher. I highly recommend The Invisible Bridge. Happy reading! WPA
I'm a lover of traditional books, but after reading so many comments about how awesome the kindle is, I might need to check it out.
