Brown paper packages tied up with string . . .

. . . These are a few of my favorite things (right now):

Books

Still Alice by Lisa Genova -- this book was recommended to me by Mrs F with 4 in the comments section of this NTB post. The novel traces early-onset Alzheimer's disease from the perspective of a fifty year-old woman who has the memory disease. I came away with a new perspective on just how traumatic the disease is on the patients. I feel bad admitting it, but before I had always thought more about the struggles of caretakers of those with Alzheimers. This novel would be a FANTASTIC book club selection. There's a lot of talk about, especially questions of quality and sanctity of life. Please read it.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins -- A few months ago I posted about The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and noted that it was so awesome that it made me want to teach ninth grade English again. Catching Fire is the sequel, and I loved it just as much or more. Totalitarianism. Revolution. Reality Television. Again, would be a great book club selection. So, go read The Hunger Games, then go read Catching Fire, and then join my hurry-up-and-finish-the-next-book-please-Suzanne-Collins club.

How I Became a Famous Novelist by Steve Hely -- Hilarious, satirical novel about today's publishing industry and readers. The novel's protagonist basically tries to write a bestselling novel by consciously writing the worst novel ever. Laughed out loud several times. Those of you who read a lot, check out book reviews, and pay attention to what's on the Bestseller list and the book table at Costco will especially enjoy this one.

Eats
Extra sharp cheddar cheese sliced and placed on my beloved Cracked Pepper and Olive Oil Triscuits

Cherry Cordial Ice Cream -- I'm eating the Edy's brand right now which is actually called "Cherry Chocolate Chip" but the point is that the combination of bright pink cherry ice cream, small chunks of chocolate, and pieces of maraschino cherry is freaking irresistible.

Dominos American Legends Pizza -- Dominos is less than half a mile from my house. If I call, it is delivered in under 20 minutes and thus we eat our fair share of Dominos. I am a master of the Dominos online ordering system with coupon codes, NTB. The two varieties of American Legends pizzas I have sampled are excellent. Do yourself a favor and try the salty and delicious Philly Cheese Steak Pizza or the Pacific Veggie one (request thing crust for that one--yes, Dominos has thin crust and it is quite lovely).

Shows
Jim and Pam are getting married. I have cried during every episode of The Biggest Loser this season (plus enjoy the train wreck that is crazy Tracey). Joel McHale and Community are hilarious. This season's Top Chefs are kicking ass (love Kevin from Atlanta, intense Jen from Philly, and the non-twin Voltaggio brothers -- not a fan of the Greek guy). And, I am Gleeful.

Weather
Love the cooler temps (but winter, don't get any ideas about arriving early, especially since you tend to overstay your welcome in these parts). Love the smell of Fall, especially when it's windy out. Love that the leaves are changing.

Okay, what are your favorite things right now?

Okay. I'm back. I LOVED Catching Fire. I read reviews that were not so complimentary before I read it and I was afraid that it would succumb to sequel disease, but I thought it was just as good as the Hunger Games and I will happily join your club because I am dying to see what happens!

Cherry Cordial Ice Cream - drooool.

I especially like the Fiery Hawaiian pizza and thin crust is my favorite. I never was a fan of pineapple on pizza, but I love this one.

I didn't think I would like Glee, but I do. I really, really do. And Community. Great comedy.

I finished The Hunger Games last week, after wearing my ipod around just about every minute of the day so I could listen to it. Obsessed. A friend is in possession of a copy of Catching Fire right now, and promises to email me as soon as she's done, but I may be using my audible credit today instead, because I don't think I can wait!
I am loving Fringe right now, and will be SO sad if it gets killed because they put it up against both the Office and Greys. Thank goodness for 2 DVRs in the house. It's like the XFiles came back in my life, and Pacey almost makes up for the lack of Mulder.

Though we're not much for chips in this household, the husband and I have been cruising through Stacy's Pita Chips. Ridiculously good. And each one is the size of a dinner plate and not prone to breaking, so you feel like you're eating less of them than you really are (read: "It's okay because I only had 8.")

I love the way my kids look in their jeans and long sleeves. I love candy corn. I love how I seek out "bad guys" and skeletons and vampires and "scary" pumpkins to delight my kids. I love my new white long sleeve v-neck T-shirt. I love taking runs in cooler temperatures and not on a treadmill. I love the kids' new Frog and Toad book. I love that I have some new books to hunt down at the library, otherwise I might only read the books at Kroger and Costco :) Rita

i am not in love with the book i am reading. at least not yet. "the history of love" by nicole krauss. but probably too early to tell. though i have been in love with several recent reads, especially "bastard out of carolina" by dorothy allison. wow.

sadly, i seem to be more in love with television these days. back and still favorites--brothers and sisters, amazing race, survivor, grey's. new shows and new loves--mercy, modern family, and the middle (laughing harder on wednesday nights than i have in a long time). and reruns of the office (i only recently started watching, so the reruns are making me insanely happy).

new food love--jimmy johns. love it. and so do eli and josie, making it even better.

and i just added "the hunger games" to my request at the library. thanks mep!

This is the 2nd time in a few days I've heard how great Catching Fire is, I think it's a sign I should head to Borders!

Wasn't Jim and Pam's wedding great?! I loved it!

Top Chef, totally agree.

My favorite things right now? Sunny days (so few and far between), Facebook, House Hunters (all new!).

Ok, now wait a minute. Someone called me "Crazy Tracey from The Biggest Loser" at a wedding this weekend which I TOOK to be a compliment because, well, She's a TRAINER, not someone trying to lose weight and I was all "Hot DAMN! I must look GOOD!" And now I'm thinking it's more of a reference to the "crazy" instead of the "trainer" aspect...

MEP, before I left for Peru, I saw your post and got Hunger Games. I loved it so much, I read it on the flight to Peru and had to beg a book from someone else to read during the trip--Out Catching Horses, which I am enjoying, but not in the can't put it down way of Hunger Games. I got Catching Fire on Saturday and finished it tonight. Very enjoyable!

I'm also enjoying this season of Top Chef. I go to Zaytinya (where Greek guy chef works) all of the time, and one of my colleauge's cousin is married to the nice Votaggio brother, who lives in Frederick MD (about an hour from DC), so I am loving all the connections. I like Jen too.
