Artsy and Fartsy

Looking for some summer fun that doesn't involve Tom and Jerry, Max and Ruby, or Phineas and Ferb?
Check out Canvastic, where your child can create works of art that can be saved and/or printed. There's even a place to add commentary. Bub the artiste, age five, named all of his pieces but the first, and I typed in his titles verbatim.
I'm going to let Bub's work speak for itself. I ask that you respond to his creations as a supporter of the arts and not as a therapist.

I admit I was a little worried about Bub during the two minute pistachio and brown phase, but he seems to have pulled himself out of it.
Any favorite web sites of the children in your life? Would you like me to send any of Bub's creations to you, free of charge, in an email attachment? Signed prints are also available upon request. Anyone? Anyone?

Disclaimer: No one from Canvastic compensated me for this post. I found the site when Bub asked me to find him a place "to do drawing on the computer." There are ads on the free version I linked to, but I can honestly say that Bub expressed no interested in heading to JoS. A. BANK (the largest ad) after creating his masterpieces.

I hope you hang these on the wall. LOVE the brown and pistachio, by the way!

Looks like the kind of thing O. and N. would love. O's captions would be very similar to Bub's, while N.'s would be all about princesses wearing rings and going on dates. What?!
Will save it for a moment of desperation later this week to get mine away from Netflix Instant on the Wii, which O. has figured out how to do all on his own.
O. is big into Reading Eggs right now, a reading program I finally caved and bought a subscription for. Not bad, but not worth the money, especially since he plays more games than does the lessons.
I think you have a budding artiste on your hands here.

I think Bub's artwork rivals that of most I've seen in modern art museums. And the captions are perfection. He's an artiste, for sure.

Sophie loves drawing on my iPhone. In fact, that's one of our go-to distractions at restaurants or just about anywhere we have to wait for more than 38 seconds. We downloaded Zoodles to our laptops. It's a collection of kids games, videos and activities. She really loves playing on there and will spend far longer doing it then I would ever have expected. I'll have to check out Canvastic, I'm sure Soph will love it!

Love it. I think my favorite is the first, though it feels incomplete without a stellar name like the others...

I am partial to the smooshed up brain icky slimy rainbow toe. Really captures the work so well!

I can't wait to try this with the girls. They are not on the computer much yet. The only site they've used is knee bouncer. But I just got an iPad and LAP just gave me a list of kid apps to try.

Even better than his artwork is his ability to title them!! Love it!
