Calling all Top Chefanatics . . .

My love for the reality programs of Bravo remains strong, and I have delighted in this season of Top Chef, especially since it took place practically in my backyard (well, my yard is not really that big, but the cheftestants shopped at a Whole Foods I can walk to and lived in a McMansion behind a Jewel where I actually grocery shop). I have had one reader request for a post on Top Chef, and while I'm not quite ready to deliver, I do want to direct all Top Chefanatics to my friend E's recent post on Top Chef and the cruel tricks the Bravo editors play on their viewers. I highly recommend checking the post out. I left a long and largely incoherent comment in which I share some of my own Top Chef Chicago insights. Until my next post, please heed these pieces of wisdom I have gleaned from Top Chef: vegetarian sushi made with fake rice is not a filling lunch for a Chicago cop; avoid frozen scallops at all costs; peanut butter mashed potatoes may not taste as wretched as they sound.

I was happy to see you post on this. Early in the season, I felt pretty sure that Dale, Richard, and Stephanie would be the final 3. Dale was my personal favorite because he was (is?) the sous chef at one of my favorite Philadelphia restaurants, Buddakan. Now, even though I still think his food would be consistently very good, I've got to admit there are probably other characteristics necessary for a successful restaurant owner. Like the ability to coexist with other humans and deal effectively with stress. And Dale doesn't seem to have them.

This is the first season I've watched and I'm really enjoying it, but I wish there had been more Chicago restaurant guests. For the record, I'm in favor of a regular NTB feature where you try a Top Chef recipe and document the results.

My favorite Bravo reality show is Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D-List. hands down. :)

I love the Bravo reality programming. I almost lost it the other night when the DVR malfunctioned and didn't record the last episode of Top Chef. I am looking forward to checking out the new cookbook. Have you been to that breakfast place they worked on the line? I went with SEL a long time ago. I felt almost famous. BDAVIN

Shamelessly Sassy - I love Kathy Griffin's life on the D list. I was worried it was gone, but I saw that it will be back on June 15th (same day Kathy hosts the Bravo awards.) Very excited for that. My mother-in-law was just saying tonight how she misses the show...the fact that she too enjoys watching it cracks me up. We are interested to see what changes now that she's dating the billionaire.

I have a terrible, deep, dark confession: I don't watch Top Chef. Although with my love for food and history in the restaurant industry you'd think it would be a perfect fit. I agree with Shamelessly Sassy tho, I totally love Kathy Griffin.

Random Guy, I will consider testing a Top Chef recipe at home, but I fear most of them are beyond my capabilities. Off the top of my head though, I'd consider doing the stir-fry Antonia made during the kids' challenge or maybe those bison cabbage cups that Dale made for the cops.

Land of Bean, if you a food lover with restaurant experience, I do think you would enjoy Top Chef. The beauty of Bravo is that you can get all caught up pretty much anytime.
